Excellence in House Energy Rating is achieved by:
- Facing main living areas North;
- Including eaves to achieve maximum summer shades on walls and windows;
- Limiting glazing for windows facing east and west and by shading these;
- Incorporating thermal mass (ie. Internal brick walls) in the design of the home;
- Including roof insulation minimum R 3.0 and for brick veneer walls, R 1.5;
- Designing the home to allow cross ventilation;
- Designing the home so that breezeway only travels through two living spaces with a maximum distance of 20 meters.
- Designing the home so there is the ability to cross air flow from south west windows to north windows.
- Fitting exhaust fans with dampers (excludes kitchen rangehood);
- Fitting seals to all doors and windows;
- Fitting chimneys with dampers.
